These are the 11 Hottest Healthcare Startups in the World Right Now

Techstars and Cedars-Sinai have teamed up to launch a 3-month healthcare focused accelerator program billed as the Techstars Healthcare Accelerator . A total of 11 companies were vetted and selected to receive up to $120K in investment and mentorship from 100+ professionals at Cedars-Sinai and Techstars, for the program based out West Hollywood.

While certainly not the first healthtech accelerator, it’s the first by accelerator that involves a major hospital group that we can recall. According to the accelerator’s website, this is what they were looking for in applicants, “We are looking for companies transforming health and healthcare. Companies that are creating hardware, software, devices and/or services that empower the patient or healthcare professional to better track, manage, and improve health and healthcare delivery are eligible to apply.” True to this mantra, this class includes a broad array of applications including startups covering VR, a health service marketplace, pain management, analytics, talent management platforms, and even a medical diagnostic equipment company to name a few.

It’ll be interesting to see how the 11 startups fare and how they are able to leverage the resources of a top-tier healthcare organization combined with the resources of the Techstars program. Demo Day is around the corner in late June but here’s a preview of the 11 startups that made the grade.

HomeHero Founded by Mike Towsend and Kyle Hill, in 2013 HomeHero is one of the largest non-medical home care providers in California. HomeHero has raised $23M in funding with its most recent round in the summer of last year totaling $20M. The startup counts Social Capital and Tencent Holdings as some of its investors.

Deep6 Founded by Brian Dolan and Wout Bursselaers, Deep 6 analyzes unstructured EHR data to build cutting-edge artificial intelligence applications for healthcare. Doctors are able to expore data in new ways to form insights and leverage the knowledge of their colleagues as well to improve patient outcomes and experience.

Applied VR Founded by David Sackman and Jeremy Bailenson, AppliedVR is the first mobile VR platform for enhanced patient experience in healthcare around acute pain and anxiety management.

Ella Founded by Alexandra Skey and Peder Sande, Ella is a mindfulness-based mobile platform that reduces healthcare costs by helping patients manage their chronic pain through the use of online MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction) programs.

Grace Founded by Alex Kruger and Annie Luchsinger in 2015, Grace is a comprehensive, technology-driven platform providing end-of-life management solutions that focuses on cremations, burials, and care services, a $20B industry, for both consumers and healthcare providers.

Inscope Medical Solutions Founded in Kentucky in 2014 by Maggie Galloway and Adam Casson, Inscope Medical has developed an all-one-intubation solution that improves this high-risk procedure’s efficiency, speed and safety — saving lives and lowering costs to healthcare providers.

Silversheet Founded by David Rakoff and Pat Cheung in 2014, Silversheet is a talent management platform focused on medical credentialing. The company previously raised a $2.9M seed round in May of 2015 led Upfront Ventures and included participation from SV Angels, Slow Ventures, Rincon Venture Partners, et al. Stasis Founded by Dinesh Seemakurty and Michael Maylhan in 2015, Stasis Labs has built a health monitoring system that allows doctors to catch declining patients and intervene before a critical event. The company has recently received a number of different accolades including receiving first place in the Ashoka Social Innovation Competition.

WELL Health Founded by Joe Tischler and Guillaume De Zwirek in 2015, WELL is a secure communication platform that helps admins and care coordinators reach patients between visits. Their text messaging system integrates with dozens of existing software programs that are being in the clinical setting today.

Yosko Founded in NYC by Andriana Nikolova and Javier Otin in 2014, Yosko is a mobile care coordination platform for hospitals that improves team collaboration, transitions of care, and efficiency in procedural areas by leverage technology. The company previously received an undisclosed amount in seed funding in 2014.

ZendyHealth Founded by Kimi Verma and Vish Banthia in 2014, ZendyHealth is a digital health marketplace where patients can bid and pick their own price on standardized health and dental services to get quality, affordable care with top providers. The company has received a total of $1.25M in funding and its recent $1M angel round in 2014 included investments from 500 Startups.
