LA Tech Week in Review

With so much going on in the thriving LA’s tech and startup ecosystem , it is easy to miss some of the news in the space. We keep you abreast of a few of things that you may have missed in LA Tech news this week including the fundings , exits , and events.

Irvine-based , Kareo , the cloud based startup that helps physicians runs their practices most efficiently has announced a $55M Series G round. The round was led by Montreux Equity Partners. Also participating were Escalate Capital Partners , Greenspring Associates , OpenView Venture Partners , Silver Lake Partners , Stripes Group , Uber CEO Travis Kalanick , and Western Technology Investment. The company has now raised slightly over $150M across 10 rounds.

OUYA , the video gaming platform for television has announced that is has been acquired by video gaming company Razer for an undisclosed amount. All indications point to a fire sale of the assets as the hardware does not seem to be continuing and the CEO will not be joining Razer. OUYA had raised $33.6M across 3 rounds since its founding in 2012.

Cylance , the cyber security startup focused on solving the "most difficult security problems" has raised a $42M Series C round led by DFJ Growth. Also participating in the round were Capital One , Dell Ventures , KKR , and Ten Eleven Ventures. The company has raised a total of $77M across 8 rounds since its founding in 2012.

, the Santa Monica-based video startup that turns any video into an interactive experience has announced a $10M series A round. Investors in the round include Evolution Media Partners , Great Oaks Venture Capital , and Luminari Capital. Fuisz has now raised $12.1M across 2 rounds since its founding in 2013.

FreedomPop , the wireless internet provider , has announced yet another round. This time a $10M Series C that was funded by Atomico , Axiata , DCM , Mangrove Capital Partners , Partech Ventures. In June the company announced its Series B and we sat down with CEO Stephen Stokols to discuss. FreedomPop has now raised slightly under $60M across 6 rounds.

AirMap , the service focused on providing accurate airspace information for drones has announced its first insititutional round of financing. The $2.6M seed round was funded by Lux Capital , The Social+Capital Partnership , Bullpen Capital , TenOneTen Ventures , Legend Star , Wonder Ventures , Sky Dayton , and Haystack.

Venice-based WEVR , the virtual reality community has announced a $10M financing from HTC.
