The food trucks happen to have the best food yet they are always moving around and their lines could be long. To add to the pain, unlike other restaurants you can’t book these trucks for your private events…until now. With Roaming Hunger you can hire a food truck for your next get together and finally not have to wait in those lines anymore. Whether it is for your backyard football game or because you are just too lazy to cook at the BBQ you are hosting, you can enjoy the best of the food trucks easier than ever.
Today we sit down with the Founder Ross Resnick to learn more about the startup and what it means for them to be ‘Made in LA’.
Tell us about the product or service.
Roaming Hunger makes it super easy to book the best food trucks for any event across the country. We are here to help vendors connect to eaters and vice versa, by making food truck catering and book simple. We also have an app that connects foodies with food trucks, providing real-time tracking for more than 7,400 popular food trucks, mobile trailers and carts across the country.
How is it different?
Our service is designed to take the stress away from consumers when it comes to booking catering for a big event. Rather than consumers having to worry about what food truck will be able to make the event, they focus on other logistics. There aren’t a lot of companies that provide this kind of service and we’re the only company that has access to over 7,400 food trucks.
What market are you attacking and how big is it?
Off-premise catering is a multibillion-dollar market and think food trucks are a big part of the future of that industry.
What is the business model?
It’s a marketplace. A booking fee is charged when we book a successful catering event.
What inspired the business?
The business was inspired by my study abroad trip to Hong Kong and Asia during college. I was officially introduced to depth and ubiquity of delicious street food. Upon my return, I came up with the idea of creating a web directory for food trucks. It went from being simply a listings site to becoming the largest destination for food truck catering and promotions
What are the milestones that you plan to achieve within six months?
Just continue to feed people great food one meal at a time!
If you could be put in touch with one investor in the community who would it be and why?
Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young. They are awesome.
What does being “Made in LA” mean to you and your company?
The phrase “Made in L.A.” means building your dream into something more and establishing yourself right here in Los Angeles. Roaming Hunger is a Silicon Beach pioneer, which is something you don’t hear often. I was born and raised here and so was this company. It’s something to be proud of.
What else can be done to promote early stage entrepreneurship in Los Angeles?
Probably more LA startups getting big (Snapchat etc.) will really solidify LA as a startup centric hub.
Where is your favorite after work spot for a drink in Los Angeles?
Our staff loves The Den on Sunset and Cabo Cantina.
